Meccanuity 2016: Two Halls in Use
By Chris Instone • Published on Monday 15 February 2016, 4:01pm
Right folks, let's start having a closer look at Meccanuity 2016.
The main hall, often referred to as the engine house, is sited to the side of the Enginuity museum itself. Entrance to this hall, and indeed the other one, Gadgetdom, is via the main entrance to the museum. The size of the main hall means that this is where the vast majority of exhibitors will be located, along with the TIMS desk, where you will be able to vote for the best model in the John Linder Memorial Shield, the Keith Way Memorial Trophy, the guess the number of parts in the jar competition, guess the part in the tin competition and enter the guess the number of parts in the model competition too. You will also be able to join TIMS, and, yet to be confirmed, but exhibitors may well be able to get their mains equipment PAT tested.
The above photo' was taken during the table set up day, at Meccanuity 2015, from the stairs to the mezzanine floor, looking towards the main doors and where Dave "Meccanoman" Taylor will be situated. Entry to the hall will be via the doors and ramp to the left of the photo'. There's more table space around to the right of the photo', and indeed underneath the mezzanine floor. Due to not having the use of the steam shed and glass classroom this year, teas and coffees will be served up on the mezzanine floor, which, if you don't mind stairs, will be much more convenient.
That's not all though. Behind the camera in the above shot is the lecture theatre...
With ample seating, this is were such things as the Meccanuity Challenge competition will take place, and the members only Meccano set auction. Being the 25th year of TIMS this year, a small celebration is planned to take place here too.
The second room in use is the Gadgetdom room. Much smaller than the main hall, it's favoured by those that maybe prefer a quieter time of it than all the goings on in the main hall. In the past, as well as Meccano models, other former Meccano products have been on display, such as Hornby Series "0" gauge electric trains, Bayko and Dinky Toy vehicles.
