Meccanuity 2016: Lecture Theatre Events, Members Only Meccano Set Auction

By Chris Instone and Chris Shute • Published on Sunday 3 April 2016, 6:12am

The lecture theatre is located in the main hall at Enginuity. As you enter the main hall from the museum itself, once down the access ramp turn right and walk approximately fifteen yards. It's here where we will be holding some extra activities over the period of the show, the first being a live auction of two Meccano sets, all in aid of society funds.

At the January Show Chris Shute came along with two Meccano sets that were donated to the club many, many years ago, and it was agreed at the society meeting that they would be auctioned off in aid of club funds, by auction, at this year's Meccanuity on Saturday 30th April at 2.00 pm. The sets will be available to view on the TIMS desk in the main hall, opposite the entrance to the hall from the museum itself, before the auction, but here's a few photo's and details kindly provided by Chris Shute...

1914 No. 5 Outfit

Chris Shute says "

A fine example of the Meccano Outfit No.5 from around 1914. The box appears original, with one replacement card tray.
Almost all nickel plated parts are present, and in very good condition, largely free from rust.

The following items are missing:

Two of the forty-four 2 2/2" perforated strips, part no.5.

Two of the four 3/4" wide (not the later 1/2" wide) Double Angle Brackets, part no.11.

The three 25 tooth pinions (with single tapped hole) part no. 25.

The six Couplings (with 2 transverse holes) part no.63.

The two Funnels (red, with wrap-around teeth) part no.2.

The six hanks of cord, part no. 40.

The instruction manual.

The following items may not be from the 1914 period:

Some of the nuts, bolts and spring clips.

The screwdriver and spanners.

The following period items are included, although not believed to be part of the No. 5 outfit:

One extra 20t Pinion.

Three Octagonal Couplings.

Two 36t Sprockets (small boss).

Two 18t Sprockets."

1961 No. 6 Outfit

Chris Shute says "All items present, little used, in excellent condition, including two hanks of cord. The manual cover is
detached, and the box sides have lost their printing.".

Dig Deep For Society Funds!

Yes folks, please dig deep for these rather nice items, all in aid of society funds. It helps TIMS do things at our shows having a good supply of funds, from providing new equipment, to perhaps putting on "special" things that wouldn't normally occur, and all points in between. At the very least, things like this help to keep society sub's low!

Not So Small Print

The auction will take place at 2.00pm on Saturday 30th April at Meccanuity 2016 at the lecture theatre end of the main hall, Enginuity. The auction will be a live one, with the sets being auctioned seperately, and bids must be made in person. Payments must be made to the society treasurer, or other committee member, after the completion of the auction. While the descriptions shown have been carefully prepared, TIMS shall not be responsible for any inaccuracies. All proceeds go to TIMS funds. Please note that due to funding restrictions put in place by Enginuity/IGMT, the auction is for members of TIMS only.

Missing parts
