Meccanuity TT 2015

The Meccanuity TT (Time Trial) will see Meccano Turbo Set vehicles race against the clock.

Rules of Racing

Overview

Using Meccano Turbo Set vehicles or with bodies of your own construction fitted to a Turbo Set chassis, participants will have one warm up lap of the course followed by one timed flying lap. The winner will be the participant with the fastest time over their timed lap.

The Course

The course will be laid out near the lecture theatre area of the Engine Room and will be very loosely based on Mallory Park Race Circuit in Leicestershire, England, albeit a lot smaller and with a few name changes!

Meccanuity TT Circuit.

  • Participants will race the circuit one vehicle at a time against the clock (as all Meccano Turbo Sets are on the same radio frequency).
  • Starting from the start line each participant will first drive around the circuit normally as an un-timed warm up lap.
  • Without stopping, participants will then start their one and only timed lap. A complete lap means all "gates" have been driven through.
  • The timed lap has a slight difference. With reference to the diagram of the track above, you will note part of the track is known as "Double Bent Strip". Participants will drive forward into this section of track and reverse out, continuing along towards "Corner Bracket" in reverse, however, not shown on the above track diagram, there will be another "Double Bent Strip" which you will reverse into before continuing around "Corner Bracket" in a sprint to the finish line.
  • There will be a 10 second penalty, added to your final time, each time the whole of the car crosses the white track boundary lines, touches or knocks over any bollards.
  • The winner will be the participant with the fastest time.
  • As all Turbo Set vehicles operate on the same radio frequency, all cars, other than the one racing at the time, will be switched off.
  • After racing is completed the course will be left available for free use.

Don't have a Meccano Turbo Set vehicle? Don't worry, a small selection of Turbo Set vehicles are available for you to use. Fresh batteries, should you require them, to give you the best chance of winning, will be available, £1 per car. All proceeds from the sale of batteries will go to TIMS funds.
